Andrew Frisby - Ashford

AndrewFrisbyFeb0402

Andrew Frisby, is an entrepreneur and franchisee for the Kent areas of Ashford, across to Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Sevenoaks. Having worked previously for BT, Andrew's business background led him to start his Dor-2-Dor franchise in January 2004.

So, how did you hear about the DOR2DOR franchise?

I was acting as a franchise recruitment consultant for DOR-2-DOR helping Jeff Frankling find suitable franchisees by matching people according to their skills and lifestyle aspirations. I realised this was a brilliant business opportunity so I decided to take up the Opportunity for Ashford, Kent

What attracted you to DOR2DOR?

I saw that the door-to-door leaflet delivery market was under-exploited, and felt that the post office wasn't providing an effective service in this area. I also spoke to existing franchisees at length. They confirmed there was good potential to start and grow a successful door-to-door business. The package was good value for money, and there was a high level of initial support to get it off the ground. Being able to access a support group of other franchisees when you need further information, was a very attractive option.

How has your employment background helped you in your new business?

I had worked for BT since 1969 in a number of roles, involving project development and national account management. Prior to setting up in business I was responsible for customer service management, which provided a useful insight into client care. Working for BT greatly expanded my confidence and resourcefulness, and I learnt valuable skills in how to deal effectively with customers and suppliers. My various roles involved sales and marketing, and the leaflet distribution industry is a natural progression.

Describe your first six months …

I started in January 04 and it has been hectic and busy. Leafleting local businesses brought plenty of custom. We are also advertising in the yellow pages. Currently our clients include; home improvements, estate agents, golf clubs, communication companies, cleaning companies, furniture manufacturers, pizza, kebab, fish and chip shops. I'm quite pleased with the response so far, we have 19 clients that we work with on a regular basis, and local awareness of our business is growing rapidly.

And the future is….?

I want to consolidate our current position and build the business by expanding the support team to assist the day-to-day administration. My vision is to be the Number One Leaflet Distribution Company of choice in Kent within the next 12 months, by focusing on service, sales and marketing.
I think that the main benefits of the franchise have been the excellent support system, the speed at which I have been able to build the business; and the fact that the business package was very affordable. It all justifies the franchise fee.
