Dave Molyneux - Worcester

DaveMolyneux2

David Molyneux, franchisee for Worcester. Prior to setting up his DOR-2-DOR franchise in 2004 David worked as a recruitment and training specialist placing people in top jobs, including franchises. Here, David talks to us about how he methodically built up a successful business operation and his plans for the future.

So, how did you hear about the franchise?

“I was introduced to the franchise by Andrew Frisby, franchise consultant and franchisee for Kent. We had various meetings, and he recommended DOR-2-DOR as a concept.

What attracted you to DOR-2-DOR?

“My experience with selecting franchise opportunities for other people initially attracted me to consider DOR-2-DOR, that along with Andrew's recommendation. The systemisation of the business gives smooth cash flow. People need to market themselves and there is potential for me to develop the franchise as a family business. I respect and liked the Franchisor Jeff Frankling.

How has your employment background helped you?

I have had considerable customer facing experience; I am comfortable talking to people and I am a good organiser. Having been a sales trainer and sold products around Europe, I have learnt to work flexibly and confidently.

Describe your first six months…

“Busy. Jeff Frankling gave very straight forward advice. Initially we dropped several hundred leaflets advertising our services in Evesham. We had one order which got us
up and running and we delivered the first 2000 leaflets ourselves to save money and learn the ropes. We appointed our first walker and attracted another client (Cartridge World) and repeated the process. To start with, I didn't wait until the round was profitable; my strategy was to drop single leaflets to build awareness and a reputation for service excellence. At the end of 5 weeks, we had 4 customers in Evesham and 3 deliverers. Then we expanded to cover Worcester, Droitwich and Pershore. 6 months later we had 6 loyal repeat customers and we were dropping on average 4 leaflets a week. Other customers joined, which meant we consistently delivered.

And the future is….?

Optimistic. Most of our business is in Worcester, We now have 15 regular clients and about 15 Post-People, covering 42,000 households. Clients include estate agents; will writers, restaurants, fashion houses and companies selling furniture, renewable cartridges and “Worcester Now”, a glossy magazine delivered to 20,000 households a month. We took over the distribution network and as part of the agreement we receive free advertising.
This is a great business and in time I plan to build an infrastructure which lessens my involvement on a day to day basis, together with a staff team to run the operation.
